Greetings! New member alert!

Post by Boredus on Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:09 am

Hi All,

I have been looking around for a few weeks now and finally registered.

I have some questions that I hope you folks can help me with.

I have been looking around for ages at buying a pickup that I can use as an everyday vehicle, but at the weekends it can have 2 or 3 mx bikes on the back.

At the moment I have a 1.6 petrol mazda 3 and use a 3 bike trailor that I dismantle after each ride and put back in my garage. All in all its a real PITA and we spend more time loading and unloading than we do riding.

There are a few things that bug me about getting a pickup truck :

1. They are HUGE. I like small hatchbacks so I am strugling with size
2. Single cab, swb are too small and dont have enough space, inside or in the back.
3. Single cab, lwb are too small inside, but have good space at the back
3. Double cabs ( my brother has a L200) are too big inside, but the back is too small to put 3 bikes in. Even 1 is a real pain to get on there cause it is too high and too short - rear wheel sticks out the back.

I decided something like a Super Cab Ranger may be ideal. What do you think?

Then there are the running costs. I drive a cheap, jap, 4 door 1.6 for a reason! its cheap to insure, cheap enough tax at £180 a year, reliable and has a fuel economy of about 30mpg in town driving like miss daisey.

So here come the questions :
1. What is the difference between a 4X4 and 2X4 regarding tax?
2. what is the typical yearly tax cost on a 4x4?
3. I have seen the insurance threads so I am know about them thanks :)
4. Which engines / sizes would get the better mileage?

So in short, I am probably looking for a pickup for all the wrong reasons! but I have always wanted another one as my first was a Nissan 1400 champ in South africa, which is merely a sample pickup truck.

Hello and welcome to the forum Welcome
In my opinion and after reading your message, there is only one vehicle that fits the bill and that is the Nissan Navara King Cab

1. What is the difference between a 4X4 and 2X4 regarding tax? Nothing
2. what is the typical yearly tax cost on a 4x4? £210 as its classed as a commercial vehicle.
3. Which engines / sizes would get the better mileage? The Nissan returns 30mpg around town and up to 40mpg on a run.

To be honest its down to cost and personal choice, but as soon as i read the thread i knew what would suit you, if you have anymore questions fire away Very Happy

Hi,
Thanks for that.
Just been and had a look online. I like those! I used to drive a Nissan 1 Tonner in South Africa for work occasionally. That had a 3L petrol engine and was set up as a road vehicle so had low profile tyres. One of the fastest things 0-60 I have ever driven.

Are there any years / Engines that I should stay away from? I would want something that is no more than 5 years old.
