Sticky Buying a cherished registration

Post by Dave C on Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:49 am

Hi all,

Just a few little notes with regards purchasing and getting cherished number plates.......a basic 'how to'.

Basically i have just gone through the proceedure and having never done it before i was really surprised just how easy it is.....so here goes..... Very Happy

Firstly, find the registration number that you wish to purchase, i got mine through the DVLA but feel sure that the 'private' companies will work the same.

With the DVLA website once you have decided which reg. you want....they give you 11 minutes to complete the transaction before the number is put back into the system..........The purchasing is really easy just like buying anything of the Net to be honest........

At the end of the transation/payment they will send you an e-mail confirming reg. and receipt for the money.

They then send you out a V750 (they say this takes upto two weeks ....but i got mine in about 5 days)... goodjob .

Once you have this form you then take it to your local DVLA office (i believe you can post to them as well).....with you V5 registration document for your vehicle.......they keep the V5 but stamp and give you back the small green slip within the V5.......they will also give you a new tax disc for the new reg. upto the expiry date of your present disc.

There is no charge for this part of the transaction ....... because the DVLA have already charged you £80 admin. when you first applied on line for the number. (if buying private....you will have to pay the £80 here.)

Take this stamped green form to any number plate maker show them the form along with photograph id (passport/driving lic.) and a utility bill to prove address and they will make up the plates for you........ Very Happy

To be honest that is about it.......i thought it was going to take about 6 weeks to sort out........but i actually started the ball rolling on xmas day.....and today have put the plates on..... goodjob

Hope that may of been to some use to you Guys/Gals .......Dave
