I will give a bit of a write up when im done, It should help some people in locating the wires that they would need to fit a similar type of system. Its quite a task as you have to tap into the Bcm, Can bus system and various other fuse boxes / relays in the Nav..... All good fun tho, Just wish it was a bit warmer Rolling Eyes

Mr Carts you must want my dad

I good thanks mate, been chilling for a few days, (hence not being around too much).

Need to get on with my clubs newsletter, but got very little input as yet, but did get a funny story about /then from one of the guys trying to defrost his truck, he started a fire under it, then yes you guess it , FIRE FIRE... and all he had was snow to put it out...

I take it you and the guys are all good

Question frozen engine defrost

Post by carts on Sun Jan 17, 2010 3:11 am

What picture have you seen

A true confession by a friend of mine..

during the cold snap, i was concerned that i had enough or any antifreeze in the water system of my mk. so i tried to start her to run her up and introduce some if needed. but when i turned her over even though the batteries were full,it sounded like the oil was treacle. not to worry, i remembered a story that my ex army college tutor had told me of how when he was serving in norway ,they used to defrost the bedfords prior to starting.
]thats it i thought confidently, ill do the same. no worries she will be purring along in no time.
so i set about filling a shallow tray with some diesel placed it under the sump on the floor and lit it.Brilliant wont be long now .
so i left it for a few minutes to do its job.
then once left i decided that it was probably time and warm enough to start. so i put a board over the flame and they went out, well the ones in the tray did,it was at that time i remembered that they joy of owning a bedford was a pleasure because the many oil leaks stopped the underneath rusting.
now due to my yard being compact i park the truck up against a fence on the nearside so getting to the flames which were roaring up the left side of the engine filling the cab with black putrid smoke was friggin impossible. so there i was standing on the deck behind the crane trying left handed, to throw snow balls through little gaps to where i could see the engine was on fire, was missing every time coz i throw like a 5 year old girl with a sheet over her head, with my left hand.this went on for some time, each throw getting closer snd closer to f**k all............. eventually i got lucky and a shot bounced off the rocker cover and fell on a flexy fuel pipe which was nice and ...burnt, and alight and melted onto the other flames putting them out.sheer relief! i got down and opened the cab door to let the smoke out.YES i was triumphant.against the flames.

So the moral of the story is. when you are given a gem of information by a older experienced mentor .before you follow their example and put that advice to the test,
always always check first that ...................................................................you are not a t*at.

ps. never add thinners to the diesel or the flames get really big and reach the engine.happy new year .
