20-5-2009: Criticism of short load bed of double cab version overcome by introduction of L200 double cab Long Bed (6th photo). Has an extra 7 inches (18 cms) of load length and 42bhp more power. The cargo area is also higher and squarer at the rear, increasing carrying volume. It now has a 1510mm long bed, the same as a Nissan Navara's, but an overall vehicle length still 30mm shorter at 5,180mm.

Due to limited factory supply the Long Bed variant is initially only available in Double Cab 4Work, 4Life and high-series Warrior and Animal variants.

High-series Long Bed variants also feature a higher power engine – 176 bhp, making it the highest power engine in the pick-up segment (the Nissan Navara Outlaw 2.5 DCI is the next most powerful at 171 bhp).

The 176bhp L200 Warrior Long Bed specification includes: 17” alloys, stability and traction control, super select 4WD, cruise control, chrome door mirrors/handles, climate control, leather steering and gear shift, and chrome rear bar.

The L200 Animal Long Bed also benefits from an increased engine output of 176bhp (previously 166 bhp), in addition to standard luxury specification items such as: Animal leather seats, Bluetooth, DVD satellite navigation with 7” screen, chrome door recess covers, fuel filler cap and tailgate cover, illuminated door entry guards, and chrome lamp bezels.

Long Bed 4Work and 4Life Double Cab variants will be available in Starlight Sliver [M] and Polar White – W32 [S]. The Long Bed Warrior and Animal Double Cab variants will be available in Starlight Sliver [M], Cosmos Black [P], Aztec Red [S], Graphite Grey [P] and Sapphire Blue [P]

The Long Bed body style will attract a £750 (excluding VAT) premium over the Standard Bed equivalent. Long Bed Warrior derivatives, with an additional 42 bhp of power, will attract an additional £250 (excluding VAT) of pricing.

Servicing schedules are maintained at 12,500 miles / 12 months. The Long Bed L200 is covered by a fully comprehensive 3 year/100,000 mile mechanical and a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty plus 3 year pan-European breakdown cover.

Last updated 17-11-2009 What's Bad
Up against Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max (Rodeo) and Toyota HiLux Vigo. Rear seat squabs of double cab do not fold up so rear of cab cannot be used for cargo or luggage. No 3.2 diesel for UK because does not meet EU4, but 160PS upgrade of 2.5 instead. UK 2004 Budget removed tax concession on which company drivers of 1 tonne double cabs were taxed on a BIK of just £500. To rise to £3,000 by 2007.
